10 Things to Consider Before Becoming a Veterinarian

10 Things to consider before becoming a veterinarian I Love Veterinary

  • Veterinary medicine is extremely demanding

But, veterinarians are one of the lowest paying professions in comparison to other medical practices. As our friend and colleague said, I wish someone told me this things before I got into veterinary medicine

  • Relocating can be difficult

It’s possible, but it might be tedious to gather all the information and getting licensed at every new place.

  • You have a passion for what you do, but sometimes people may not see that

They might think that vets are extremely expensive, because of the “unnecessary” exams you need to perform to diagnose their pets.

  • You can’t save them all

There are times that owners bring their pets in too late.

  • Nobody can prepare you on how heartbreaking it is to put a patient down

Even when you know it’s best for them. There will be times when you will have to euthanize a beloved pet. Dealing with euthanasia and the loss is something you will have to learn to do.

  • You have to deal with people too

Not just cute puppies and kittens. Educating pet owners is part of the job of everyone involved in the veterinary field.

  • You might be exhausted most of the time

Make sure to look after yourself and avoid spinal injuries.

  • The truth about some workplaces

They might not care about your psychological health and feelings.

  • Farmers might prefer if you’re male

If you’re a woman and want to become a large animal vet, you might struggle to get respect from farmers.

  • At the end of the day…

After spending years in university to become a vet and all the long hours at the vet clinic, nobody will take from you the feeling of being a superhero that lives for the moment of saving an animal. Each veterinarian has some characteristics that make them successful
