New pet law regulation in the UAE has been introduced by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment yesterday.
These new regulations will outline the responsibilities of an animal owner and all the technical standards for animal housing facilities. Failure to follow these regulations will be punishable by fine or jail time.
One of the legal amendments for pet ownership states that abandoning your pet, no matter the reason, will be considered an act of cruelty and can result in jail time.
The director of the Food Diversity Sector at MOCCAE said that the UAE is very much committed to animals welfare and that health and well-being of the animals has a significant value in their Islamic beliefs.
