The Royal Veterinary College (RVC) warns that in the upcoming years, French Bulldog owners are facing a lifetime of expensive veterinary bills because the breed is becoming very unhealthy.
According to a study conducted with 2 228 French Bulldogs, these animals have become more vulnerable than ever for many health issues, including conjunctivitis, ear infections, and diarrhea.
Because the breed has been so popular in the last years, the number of puppies born has been enormously high, 7500% since 2003. That is about 12 000 dogs each year in the UK only.
When we compare these Frenchies to all other breeds, they are more prone to skin fold dermatitis and the all-time favorite brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome.
Because of irresponsible breeding, it’s not enough that the initial price of these dogs is very high, the new owners have to face very expensive veterinary bills to keep their pooch happy and healthy.
