The UK Government launched a campaign with the slogan “Trust me, I’m a Vet” to try to educate the public and the pet owners, and at the same time raise awareness on one very frightening subject – antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The campaign launched April 5th and its goal is to reduce the unnecessary antibiotic use.

The campaign started as a result of a survey that showed that nearly 70% of the veterinarians feel that their clients are not aware of the concept of antimicrobial resistance. The veterinarians say that 90% of their clients expect antibiotic prescription at the end of the exam no matter the illness of their pet.

The British Government is encouraging vets to try to participate in this campaign by educating their clients on the concept of antimicrobial resistance, how important it is, and what are the dangers that can come out of it.
