Formerly known as the NAVC (North American Veterinary Conference), the VMX (Veterinary Meeting & Expo) will be held this year 3-7 February in Orlando, Florida.
The first event was held back in 1984 as the Eastern States Veterinary Conference that brought many professionals in the field from around the world to gather up and meet in Orlando. The first meeting under the name NAVC was organized in 1991.
The event traditionally was held each January and soon enough it became a launching pad for the market’s brand new products and medical advances. And Orlando became known as the place where the annual veterinary meetings in North America start.
The number of visitors tends to increase every year and in 2016 record 17.328 guests visited the event. Last year the number of visitors was 17.139. The VMX is open for every member of the veterinary healthcare team, veterinary and vet tech students, and their friends and family.
In order to be part of the Veterinary Meeting & Expo, you need to register at the official NAVC website. Every registration gives you an opportunity to enhance your professional career by attending scientific sessions and have an access to the Expo Hall. Besides that, you get daily lunch service, evening entertainment, and shuttle bus services.
You can also invite family and friends by purchasing guest badges at a price of $85. Children under 18 aren’t required to carry badges. Guest badges allow guests to only attend the evening entertainments, Expo Hall, and Shuttle Buses.
Some additional fees need to be paid to participate in Hands-on Labs, Behind the Scenes Tours, Rounds, and Meet the Professor Luncheons. These activities cover a large variety of veterinary topics like Canine Sports Medicine, Veterinary Forensics, Dentistry, Dermatology, Hospital Design, Acupuncture and Holistic Medicine, and many more.
In addition to the 3 main hotels collaborating with VMX, the organizers have negotiated rates with several others in the area and you can find the specific rates and the locations on their website.
Over the course of five days during the conference, an attendee can acquire a maximum of 41.5 hours of CE (Continuing Education) from the overall of 1200 CE credit hours to choose from.
The Expo Hall experience this year will be extraordinary with more than 700 exhibiting companies offering their problem-solving products, services and the latest veterinary equipment out there. Besides in-clinic products, you can find various things like animal themed jewelry or custom website packages.

The VMX entertainment consists of concerts, guest speakers, receptions and social gatherings. This year’s line-up features meeting sessions with Michael J. Fox and Jeff Corwin on the opening day and Rob Thomas concert two days later. The finale party on 7th of February will be ‘Back to the 80’s’ themed event.
