This month, October, we dedicate to finding forever homes to as many dogs possible because this month we celebrate as National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month.

Two big animal welfare organizations have decided to dedicate this month to all the homeless and shelter dogs. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) naming this month National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, and the American Humane Association (AHA) naming this month “Adopt a Dog Month”. Similar names, one big unique goal.

Throughout the United States, this month will be mass adoption events. If you’re not in the position to adopt at the moment, you can help these dogs in many other ways. You can contact the local shelter in your area and ask if they need an extra pair of hands during these events. If you can, you can also help by donating for food for the dogs. One way of helping is using your time on social media to promote some of the cute faces at the shelters that are ready for adoption and try to find them a forever home among your friends.

Organizing a fundraiser in your community will be much appreciated and will help many dogs get on their paws and run into the arms of their new families.

Having a dog is a wonderful experience. But, remember to always choose your next canine companion according to your lifestyle (high or low energy dog, big, medium or small breed) and your finances. Always keep in mind that dogs do get sick or in accidents sometimes. Consider pet insurance or an emergency fund at all times.

Adopt responsibly 🙂

Happy National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month!
