The British Veterinary Poultry Association (BVPA), the British Veterinary Association (BVA) and the Veterinary Public Health Association (VPHA) have greeted a “New Code of Practice for the Welfare of Laying Hens and Pullets” in the United Kingdom on June 5th.
This new code is just the latest in the series of upgraded welfare codes the British are doing to ensure the health and welfare of their animals. The code is being reviewed at the moment by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).
John Fishwick, the president of the British Veterinary Association, says that they are very happy for all the improvements they are making and the vital role the veterinary profession is playing in maintaining the welfare in poultry and other farm animals.
The poultry industry in the United Kingdom has one of the highest welfare standards in the World.
