The Bureau of Investigative Journalism and the Guardian had a joint investigation which revealed more than thousand hygiene violations in the production process of poultry meat in the US.

These violations were revealed from a stack of unpublished US documents and showed the use of dirty chicken, diseased poultry meat, and pictures of pic carcasses lying on the floor. They also revealed documents for meat that was intended for human consumption but riddled with fecal matter, and factories flooded with polluted water.

The investigation, further on, analyzed hundreds of pages of documents that were never published. These documents all contained information on violations at meat processing plants operating by “Pilgrim’s Pride”. This company is one of the biggest meat producers in the USA and it has the capacity to process over 34 million birds per week.
