Dadeland Animal Hospital team

About the clinic “Dadeland Animal Hospital”

It was founded in 1965 by Dr. Sharon MacIvor and she currently sits on the board of the Miami ZOO and has been a Vet in Miami for over 20 years. Dr. MacIvor opened her own clinic because she had a passion for helping the pets in need. She specializes in dermatology and enjoys helping out her community. We also have 2 other practicing DVM’s here, Dr. Davila and Dr. Falco.

Dr. Jose Falco was born in Cuba and grew up around dogs, cats, roosters, and pigs. He believes growing up around animals is the reason he is a veterinarian today. When he was 24 years old, he finished his studies working in large animal veterinary care.

Dr. Falco came to the United States in November 1999 and earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. He then worked as a house call veterinarian for 5 years, opened his own practice and served as Medical Director for Derks Animal Hospital before moving his team to join the wonderful & caring staff at Dadeland Animal Hospital.

Dr. Davila was born and raised in Puerto Rico where he studied and obtained his undergraduate degree at the University of Puerto Rico. He obtained his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from St Georges in Grenada then completed in Chicago and Athens, GA. Dr. Davila has always had a passion for animals and pocket pets, in particular. He has 2 pet chinchillas, Chile and Chinchi.

Which events do you celebrate at your clinic?

We celebrate Vet Tech Week with lunch for the team and goody bags. For World Veterinary Day we have a team lunch and everyone gets a team shirt. We love celebrating our team’s birthdays and we also celebrate holidays.

Most common vet cases

Mostly annual visits and sick cases but we do see quite a few dental cleanings (we are huge on oral care).

What is the most remarkable case that came to your clinic, one that the whole staff remembers to this day?

We once had a kitten come in with a broken femur and the rescue couldn’t afford the procedure. We managed to fix the leg at a very discounted cost and now the kitten has his forever home and is able to run around freely with his new siblings.

What do you, or the management team do to maintain a healthy work environment?

Our team has flexible work schedules and we tend to work as a team to get things done. Always nurturing good communication amongst the DVMs and staff.

Do many of your clients take advantage of pet insurance?

Around 10% percent of our clientele has pet insurance.
